Receptionist & Power User Phones

Your receptionist answers more calls than anyone else in the building, and transfers most of them. That person needs to see at a glance who is on the phone, park and pick up calls, and do it all on a headset. A basic desk phone gets in the way fast.

The answer is usually a phone with plenty of line keys, a sidecar for busy lamp fields (the lights that show who is on a call), and a wireless headset with an electronic hook switch. Here is what we recommend, starting with our own Crosstalk phones.

Questions we get

What is a busy lamp field?

A busy lamp field (BLF) is a row of keys on a phone, each one tied to another extension. The light on each key shows whether that person is free, ringing or on a call, so a receptionist can see who is available before transferring. Pressing the key calls or transfers to that person. When a phone runs out of keys, a sidecar adds more.

Do I need a sidecar?

Only if the front desk needs more keys than the phone has. The Crosstalk 270 has 10 line keys and takes up to four Crosstalk 200 sidecars, and the 280 has 36 on-screen keys, which covers most offices without one.
