🧾 Job Description: Linux + Docker System Builder for Offline Self-Hosted Knowledge Platform
Location: Remote
Type: Freelance Contract
Budget: Fixed or hourly (TBD based on experience)
Estimated Duration: 2–4 weeks (part-time or flexible)
📋 Project Summary:
We’re building a self-contained, offline-first knowledge and AI system that runs entirely from a compact Linux-based mini PC. It will use local web interfaces to provide access to key information, educational resources, and chatbot tools — even when completely disconnected from the internet.
This is an exciting opportunity to help prototype the platform that serves as a digital library, reference hub, and interactive assistant — all in one box.
🔧 Key Responsibilities:

Set up a clean Ubuntu or Pop!_OS system on a mini PC

Build and configure a modular Docker-based stack, including:

Local AI chatbot (Ollama + OpenWebUI or equivalent)

Offline Wikipedia reader (Kiwix-serve)
-
Ebook reader/library (Calibre-Web)
-
Offline educational platform (Kolibri with Khan Academy content)
-
Optional: Offline map tile server (OpenMapTiles, TileServer-GL)

Create a simple local web portal (served via Nginx or similar) to link users to each tool

Write automated setup and update scripts for easy replication
-
Prepare the system to be fully documented and deployable via GitHub
✅ Preferred Skills:

Strong Linux system administration experience (Ubuntu or Pop!_OS preferred)

Proficiency with Docker and Docker Compose

Familiarity with self-hosted LLM tooling (e.g., Ollama, LocalAI)

Experience configuring offline tools like Kiwix, Calibre-Web, or Kolibri
-
Scripting experience in Bash (Python is a bonus)

Comfort setting up local web portals and reverse proxies (e.g., Nginx)

Ability to document everything clearly for non-expert users
🧠 Bonus Points For:

Familiarity with content packaging (e.g., ZIM files, eBook libraries, Kolibri channels)

Experience building user dashboards or local-only web tools

Knowledge of offline maps or OpenStreetMap-based systems
